Starting - Oh my gosh, I'm blogging!

Hi friends,
Okay, I'm at home on my time off, but this is "fun work." Yeah, right. No, really, this is FUN! [My right brain is arguing with my left brain again. (;-) ] Maybe I need to go play with my dog (yeah, that's Miss Honey, all 82 lbs. of her, over on the left), and get my heart rate even & everything synchronized & the cortisol down.

Seriously, you might want to read The Heart Speaks by Mimi Guarneri -- as soon as I return it to the library, that is. It's a good read -- keeps me focused on breathing, staying calm, and enjoying life.

If you like The Heart Speaks, give Change or Die a try, too -- again, as soon as I return it and your turn comes up on the hold list. Interesting exploration of the psychology of change and why it's harder than we want it to be, with interesting examples of institutions & organizations that have been able to make difficult changes -- and some that haven't.
Well, I'm going to get out there and run with the big mutt so the Slackers exercise team will regain its former glory. Talk to you later!

Hey Biblionut! Great job! You even posted a picture already. You're ahead of the game! That's a great picture of your dog! 82 pounds!? Does he do pony rides too? =)

What did you think of the 7 1/2 habits of lifelong learning? I suspect that you are someone who finds number 7 1/2 easy. Am I wrong?

Hi Amanda,

So you think I'm one of those playful types? Can't imagine what makes you say that. Actually, I'm always very serious...about play. If I didn't play a lot, I would be even crazier than I am. Perhaps we should start one of those Yoga Laughing groups at work?

I have read about the 7/12 habits elsewhere, I think -- am familiar with Covey's work, so the habits feel logical, familiar, and natural, but I guess I have always been a self-directed learner...and a player. (:-)

I feel compelled to remind you that Miss Honey is a girl, and she does not give pony rides because she is not an equine -- why, she is not even an ungulate -- rather, she is from the canine side of our family. She does do some fun tricks, but she's no good as a mode of transportation.

This blogging is kind of fun & much easier than HTML code banging. Now the $64 question: Will the City allow us to have "real" blogs to communicate info to "real" patrons (as opposed to our "fake" patrons)? I know some public libraries are doing this, and it seems like a good way to communicate current awareness info, etc.

Thanks for setting all of this up, Amanda (the 23 Things, that is) -- it's getting us thinking in different directions & trying new stuff.

Love the picture - lots of dog!

Do you think either of the books would be good for ALLen READS?
Change or Die sounds rather extreme.

No, I don't think either book would work for ALLen Reads, but I do think you would enjoy both of these. Change or Die is not extreme at all — quite the contrary, actually.

Soooo sorry to offend Miss Honey! Will she ever forgive me? :-)

I'm hoping that the city will allow us greater freedom in what we can do with technology. I think the first step is educating ourselves about the options.

I'm glad you're enjoying the 23 things!
